OUR COMMUNITY

At our core, we exist to make our community a better place to live

The Civic Theatre is located in the heart of Nelson, BC.  Our community is everything to us and it is important for us to provide a communal living room where people of all ages can come, sit back, and enjoy thoughtful and diverse film programming together.

It was our community that rallied to reopen our doors back in 2013 and since then, we’ve also used this space to actively give back in ways that extend beyond our regular film programming.

The best things in life are free, just like our popular family-friendly community events, like Zombie Walk and Home for the Holidays.

As a charitable organization ourselves, we recognize that nonprofits are the lifeblood of community in Nelson, and we use our space to strengthen their efforts by providing subsidized rental space or complementary movie tickets for use as incentives or auction items.

While our physical roots may lie in Nelson, we have a regional focus extending to our neighbouring communities in both the East and West Kootenay’s.  We’ve established ourselves as the home for the Kootenay Screen-Based Industry. Responding to feedback from Kootenay-based film professionals who expressed a desire to find ways to make screen-based careers possible in the area, we’re working hard to develop a thriving and collaborative regional sector for the benefit of all.
