When it opens with three screens, The Civic Theatre will be an unprecedented point of convergence between past and future. A historical building where people can continue to experience the wonder of cinema, a home for dialogue and community-building, and a place where we can harness the power of technology to steer our community towards an empowered future.
A bright and clean lobby will greet you as you enter the centre, reflecting the excitement of a modern community space, while still retaining some of the original glamour of the theatre. The new lobby will be equipped with sparkling new washrooms, an elevator, a box office, and a patron services desk.
Enter the doors to the main auditorium, and you will feel right at home with the familiarity of the original stage, retractable screen, and seating. The auditorium will be slightly smaller to make room for the rear theatres but will retain its seating capacity, thanks to the new observatory balcony.
Experience that big cinema feeling as major film content premieres on this screen. After a time, film content will rotate back to a rear theatre, and the screen will roll up to free the stage for live performances and other events, while still enabling us to meet distributor needs. Your experience of film and live events will be augmented with our new lighting and sound production booth.
