OUR MISSION

Entertain, educate, connect, and communicate.

The Civic Theatre is a non-profit cultural media arts centre devoted to presenting and promoting film as a cultural and economic force in our society; advancing education about film and digital media; and, through the power of technology, offering our city and region a greater role to play in a global community.

NELSON CIVIC THEATRE SOCIETY

The Civic Theatre operated as a commercial operation from 1935 until September 2010, when it was closed, leaving a large gap in Nelson’s cultural fabric.  In April 2012, a Nelson mother issued a rallying cry to save the theatre, and the Nelson Civic Theatre Society was formed. Now a registered Canadian charity, the Nelson Civic Theatre Society was founded in 2012 and is the sole tenant and operator of The Civic Theatre.

OUR VALUES

Nelson Civic Theatre Society is guided by five core values.  As we strive to achieve our mission, these values steer our decisions, our plans, and our work.

Community

We ensure that our programming reflects the diversity and culture of our community.

Dialogue

Community input, dialogue, and volunteerism are essential to our operation.

Respect

We provide a fulfilling and respectful working environment for our staff and volunteers.

Collaboration

We foster a spirit of collaboration and endeavour to complement the goals and programs of other community groups and organizations.

Innovation

We strive to be innovative and entrepreneurial, a catalyst to local thought leaders as they contribute positively to the digital world.
